We
hand out care packages from the U.S. to Iraqis now that
the area has been cleared of terrorists, one Marine
told me. When we tell them that some of these
packages arent from the military or the government,
that they were donated by average American citizens
in places like Kansas, people choke up and sometimes
even cry. They just cant comprehend it. It is
so different from the lies they were told about us and
how were supposed to be evil.

VFW Post 7788 News
Commander's Message |
On April 21st VFW Post 7788 will elect officers for our new year which begins in June. As many of you know, I have decided not to accept a nomination this year. While Christine and I are planning to remain active with the VFW at the local and district level, we are also planning to spend more time with our son Matt who will be a senior at Jonathan Law High School next year.
It has been my great pleasure to serve VFW Post 7788, first as your Post Quartermaster, and then for two terms as your Post Commander. Before the end of this term we will have our "Day for a Vet", we will place flags at Kings Highway cemetery, we will have our Memorial Day parade and wreath ceremony, we will plan our support for the 4H Wounded Warrior fund raiser, and hold our convention. I know I can count on your help. As always, I'll need it.
Together, we have accomplished many good things for veterans and our community. We should all be especially proud of the support we have been able to show our hospitalized veterans and overseas troops. We've sent hundreds of packages to our local troops stationed overseas. We've spent many hours with our disabled and hospitalized veterans. We've raised thousands of dollars for phone cards to help our troops stay connected with their loved ones. We have retired many flags together.
I am very proud that we were able to charter a new Men's Auxiliary and that I was here to see our Ladies Auxiliary move into the future with a renewed enthusiasm.
With all our projects, we still found some time for building improvements, to develop one of the best Websites in the VFW, and to work with the American Legion, the Red Cross, the Boy and Girl Scouts, the Milford Republicans, the Milford Democrats, the Milford Young Women's Club, the Lions, Grace Baptist Church Youth Group, and others to support our community, our veterans, and our troops.
Please continue to make our newest members welcome. Many of these young men and women have served several tours of duty in recent years. Many of them are deployed today or will soon deploy again. Remember, it's for and with them that we are building our future. Letʼs keep them in our prayers.
I have enjoyed the experience of working with each of you more than I can say. Thank you so very much for all the support you have given me,
Greg |

State Convention
|

|
Comrades,
We are planning our wild weekend at the VFW State Convention June 13th through 15th at the Rocky Hill Marriott. As many of you know, we have a hospitality room with our own patio by the pool. We will have food (sandwiches, hors d'oeuvres, etc) and plenty of liquid refreshments beginning at 3pm June 13th through 11am 15th.
WARNING: THERE WILL BE LOTS OF LIGHTS, MUSIC, FOOD AND DRINK at no cost to our members and auxiliaries. Joannie recommends you get plenty of sleep before you arrive!!!!
To reserve your own room, call 1-800-228-9290 (Rocky Hill Marriott) and ask for the $92/per night VFW Convention rate. I strongly recommend getting a room for the Friday night (6/13) party, and if possible, also the Saturday night (6/15) party part II! MANY friends found that they did not want to drive home on these nights. Make your reservations soon. This hotel will fill up before the end of April.
We've got a lot to do over the next few months, including:
* Day 4 a Vet on April 27th - lets give our hospitalized vets a great day out
* Memorial Day Flags on Graves, Wreath laying, and Parade
* Wounded Warriors fundraiser - we are assisting
* Disabled building access projects - the elevator is getting closer to reality
* Post elections - please consider running for office
I hope to see you at our Convention!!!!
Greg
